Bahrain Red Crescent Society

The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) is a humanitarian organization established in 1971 under a charter issued by the late Amir of Bahrain, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. It gained recognition from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on September 14, 1972, becoming the 116th member of the global humanitarian network. Headquartered in Hoora, Manama, the BRCS operates with the mission of providing aid and relief to those in need, both within Bahrain and internationally. ​

In January 2023, the BRCS honored its volunteers for their dedicated efforts during 2022. This celebration aimed to appreciate the volunteers' contributions to the society's initiatives and programs across various fields of relief and humanitarian work. Such recognition events underscore the society's commitment to fostering a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility within the community. 

Health Initiatives & Training Programs

The BRCS places significant emphasis on health-related initiatives. In October 2023, the society organized a training workshop titled "Psychological First Aid," targeting healthcare providers and community members. The workshop aimed to build the capabilities of participants in providing psychological care before, during, and after crises and disasters. The interactive sessions covered skills such as observing, listening, and connecting, along with upholding values like safety, dignity, and rights. The training received positive feedback, with participants recommending the continuation of similar programs to enhance mental health support in the community. 

In September 2023, to mark World First Aid Day, the BRCS conducted a series of events under the theme "World First Aid and Cardiac Resuscitation Day." These activities aimed to raise awareness about the importance of first aid in saving lives, particularly emphasizing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The society organized workshops demonstrating various first aid techniques, including interventions for wounds, bleeding, and fractures, as well as emergency response protocols. Participants engaged in hands-on CPR exercises and interactive learning sessions, reflecting the society's dedication to equipping individuals with life-saving skills.

International Collaboration & Humanitarian Aid

The BRCS actively collaborates with other Red Crescent and Red Cross societies to enhance its humanitarian efforts. In May 2023, the society discussed strengthening cooperation with the Jordan Red Crescent Society in various areas, including responding to regional and international relief appeals, participating in events within the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Movement, and training volunteers. This collaboration also extended to providing aid to Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp in Jordan, showcasing the society's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations beyond Bahrain's borders.

Demonstrating solidarity with Lebanon following the Beirut port explosion in August 2020, the BRCS donated $150,000 to the Lebanese Red Cross. This contribution aimed to support the restoration of homes affected by the explosion, facilitating the return of victims to their residences. The society's swift response highlighted its dedication to providing timely assistance to communities affected by disasters.

Community Engagement & Social Services

Within Bahrain, the BRCS is actively involved in supporting local communities. The society assists approximately 450 families on a monthly basis, aiming to improve their quality of life. Seasonal programs extend support to around 6,000 families, reflecting the society's commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. The BRCS continually explores new ways to enhance living standards, including promoting employment and providing social rehabilitation services.

In alignment with its mission to provide comprehensive support, the BRCS launched an ambulance service dedicated to serving Bahraini pilgrims during the Hajj season. This initiative ensures that pilgrims have access to necessary medical care, reflecting the society's proactive approach to addressing the health needs of its citizens during significant religious events.
