The Emergency Medical Services developed in 1985 within the Department of Accident and Emergency at Salmaniya Medical Center to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care services to the sick and injured patients by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), paramedics, at the sense and during transportation to the hospital. Accident and Emergency services are expanding rapidly as the population and the need for such services grow. However, there has been no report of systematic studies based on scientific means to assess the need for the services and to plan a comprehensive model of care, particularly in the area of ambulance services at the Ministry of Health. With the rapid socio-economic changes and modernization with high technology in Bahrain, such a need is becoming more and more demanding. Salmaniya Medical Complex provides two types of ambulance services differentiated by nature of calls at science of accidental injury or sudden illness and during transportation to the medical facilities.
